UE soccer player left paralyzed by auto accident

Folsom Car Accident AttorneyThe University of Evansville soccer player mistakenly reported dead after an auto accident is paralyzed. She had been on a weekend road trip with friends in a Ford SUV.

According to a website maintained by her family, Abby Guerra, 19, of Arizona suffered a complete fracture to her spine in a July car accident. It has left Guerra paralyzed from about the waist down.

Guerra’s parents explained in a website dedicated to Guerra’s recovery that they have kept that detail private, wanting to tell their daughter first.

Guerra has been bedridden with a complete spinal fracture since the July accident. Her family released a statement to the press earlier this week to confirm unfortunately that Guerra has been left completely paralyzed from the waist down. The family explained the situation in greater detail on a website they have setup to monitor Guerra’s recovery. Apparently they had speculated for some time that Guerra would not walk again, but wanted to keep that information private until multiple medical professionals confirmed and their daughter was made aware of her condition.

Guerra was originally believed to have died in the July 18 crash because of a case of mistaken identity. Authorities later determined that Marlena Cantu, 21, had been killed.

Cantu, Guerra and three other people were returning to Glendale, Arizona, on July 18 from a weekend trip to Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., when a tire blew out on their Ford SUV, causing the vehicle to roll over.
