Family Receives Multimillion Dollar Verdict Against Elder Healthcare Company

The family of a 79-year old woman who died in 2005 after residing in a California nursing home, received a $28 million dollar judgment from a Sacramento jury. The elder health care facilities Horizon West and Colonial Healthcare at issue in the lawsuit are owned by Golden Legacy, which has been in business since 1960 and operates over 27 nursing facilities in addition to some assisted living communities. The healthcare company has already stated it will appeal the jury’s verdict, citing the decision was based on emotions rather than the facts of the case.
